About
James Janota, English Teacher
As the 2018- 2019 academic year begins, I am entering my 21st year in education, my 17th overall year at Neuqua Valley High School. I first earned my Bachelor of Arts in English Education at Dominican University in 1998, and moved on to my first professional teaching position at St. Patrick High School in Chicago. While there, I taught English I CP, English II CP, English III CP, and English III PX. I additionally coached both the Cross Country and Track and Field teams. While still with St. Patrick, I became Head Coach for the Men's and Women's Cross Country programs at Dominican University, my alma mater, from 2000 until 2002.
After completing my Master of Arts in Educational Administration in 2002, I accepted a position with Neuqua Valley High School and have been blessed with amazing colleagues and awesome students ever since. I have taught English I CP and English IV Philosophy through Literature in past years, but my current assignment is instructing students in English II Honors and English IV Advanced Placement. I also serve as the Assistant English Department Chair.
I continue to coach long distance running with the Men's Cross Country team as the Sophomore Coach. Previously, I also served as the Distance Coach for the Men's Track and Field team from 2003 until 2015. We have been tremendously successful, amassing 11 State trophies since 2007, as well as a Nike Team National Championship.
I earned National Board Certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in 2008, and completed my Master of Arts in Educational Technology in 2013 through Concordia University - Chicago. In 2018, I earned National Board Certification once again after submitting a professional portfolio.
I am a firm believer that education is a two-way street. With a community of dedicated learners, the role of teacher and student can truly be interchangeable, so long as there is mutual respect.
